When talking about slim watches what comes to our mind at is the Bulgari Octo Finissimo series. Bulgari Octo Finissimo series broke the record for being the world’s slimmest watch 8 times consecutively. The most recently released watch of that series was the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra and it was only 1.8mm thick which made it the thinnest watch in the market by the time of its release.

But Richard Miller partnering with Ferrari released the RM-UP 01 Ferrari timepiece which is only 1.75 mm thick , making it the world’s thinnest watch. Ferrari and Richard Miller have always invested themselves on developing new sporty mechanisms and producing something very unique which is immediately recognizable and most importantly they always create something which contradicts prevailing trends. The RM-UP 01 Ferrari can be identified as a combination of all these unique aspects of both these iconic brands.

The main objective of both the companies was to create an extremely flat watch which met the same requirements as the current day luxury watches despite its lack of space to assemble ordinary movement. Though the watch is very thin Richard Mille used traditional architecture in assembling the movement within the case rather than utilizing the case back of the watch as the baseplate which might have given issues in shock absorption.

The case, baseplate and the bridges of the watch are crafted using Grade 5 Titanium also the case of the watch is put together using 13 Grade 5 Titanium Spline screws. The Skeletonized Baseplate of the watch was subjected many tests to ensure its strength and rigidity. The caliber used in the watch is the RM-UP01 caliber which is an Ultra flat manual winding movement with hours, minutes and function selector.

This watch has got 2 crowns which is integrated to the bezel. One of them is for selecting the function of the other crown which is winding or selecting time. The other crown is the one used for winding the watch and setting time. The only drawback we see in this watch is you need a separate spline screw to wind the watch and to set time. Unlike in a typical watch we do not have hour or minute hands in this watch instead we have got an hour disc and a minute wheel.

The escapement of the watch was developed in collaboration with the Engineers of Audemars Piguet. This newly designed Escapement played a huge role in reducing the thickness of the Caliber without downgrading any of its functions. This watch has a power reserve of 45 hours and is water resistant up to10 meters.
This watch is currently retailed at 1.75 Million USD and is a limited edition watch with only 150 pieces.
